Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island called West Island. People who don't understand they mistakenly believe the West Island extends westward from Montreal. Actually, the West Island includes everything westward from the city of Lachine. Many times, it is credited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time in the city was brief. Brugel developed on Courtice close to Oshawa located in Ontario. When she was a child she hoped to become a performer but an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. The Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. When I reached the height of the size of my male friends and stopped dancing, I quit. Some former dancers switch to acting, and in the case of Brugel, it was a nudge from a high school drama teacher that encouraged her to go in that direction. The teacher recommended that she audition for an annual school production. The student tried it out, and was eventually cast as the lead in Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program and graduated from the program in 2000, earning a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Through the years since Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions across small and big screens drawing the most attention when she landed the role as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was only seen on a few moments in the very first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. The only Canadian participant.
